Product detailed description
This microlot comes from the Karii washing station, part of the Mutira Farmers’ Cooperative Society. The station was established in 1984 and today works with around 600 smallholder farmers from the area around Kerugoya town.
What makes this lot interesting is the combination of four different coffee varieties. Alongside the classic Kenyan cultivars SL28 and SL34—known for their complex flavor profiles and ability to maintain quality even as the trees age—farmers here also grow modern cultivars Batian and Ruiru 11. These were developed in response to climate challenges and disease pressure, bred for greater resilience while preserving distinctive cup character. Together, they result in a cup that’s not only fruity and vibrant but also clean and consistent.
Cherries are hand-sorted, depulped, and fermented for 24 to 36 hours, depending on temperature. After washing, the beans are sorted again by density and dried for 12 to 20 days on raised African beds.
In the cup, expect classic Kenyan brightness—notes of red currant and cranberries, rounded off with a creamy, gently sweet finish.
