Product detailed description
This micro-lot originates from smallholder farmers on the hills of Karira in northern Burundi. As well as coffee trees, cassava is grown here to supplement their agricultural production and income. The cherries are harvested exclusively by hand and processed using the washed method, which is the most widespread in the area, thanks to the availability of water and functioning processing stations.
The flavour is characterised by the freshness of grapefruit, the sweetness of dried cranberries and the delicate bittersweetness of rose hips. This coffee has a light body, pronounced acidity and a tea-like structure, which is best highlighted when prepared using a filter. As an espresso, it tastes sweeter, with a fuller body and a citrus aftertaste.
An interesting fact about the name Karira is that it means 'to cry' in Kirunda. This refers to an ancient dispute between brothers from the royal family, which took place on this hill and left a deep mark on the region.
